This is the eighth year that we have “mixed” things up a bit and added the option to order a delicious candy/nut tray or a box of Twin Bings, both of which are made right here in Siouxland by Palmer Candy Co. and can be shipped to loved ones far away.

Of course we still have beautiful poinsettias, but be sure to order soon, as color and sizes are limited.

This successful event is consistently one of our biggest fundraisers.

In fact, the annual tournament serves as the largest fundraiser of the year for CSADV. The day of golf will conclude with a banquet and awards ceremony at the Country Club.

We do it every year.

Did you know that there were around 2,500 homeless people in Sioux City last year—about 250 or 300 on the streets on any given day? There are entire families living on the streets. And children, too. It’s not a good situation.

Another little-known fact is that slightly over 25 percent of Siouxland’s homeless are veterans, ranging from those who served in Vietnam to veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Realizing this, off to the park went the volunteers last November. They took pledges, packed up their tents (and cardboard boxes in a few cases) and off to the park they went. It was such a success that they’re going to do it again in 2017! We’re gonna have an auction, a box contest, maybe even a movie if the weather holds!

At CSADV, we see first-hand the numbers of women and children living on the streets in our community. They need your help in creating housing options. Whether you plan on participating in this year’s “Sleep-out” or not, you can help by taking a chance on one of these raffle tickets.

Domestic Violence thrives when we are silent. But if we take a stand and work together, we can end domestic violence. Throughout the month of October, help CSADV to raise awareness about domestic violence and join in our efforts to end violence.

Here is what you can do:

Your company can help by holding a “Jeans Day” at your office. Pick a day or several days throughout the month of October where your employees can wear blue jeans to work for a $5 donation to CSADV. We are willing to provide a speaker and/or information brochures if requested.

Can’t do “Jeans Day”? No problem! Consider making a donation to CSADV or even volunteering your time.

The Siouxland Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault along with CSADV and the Sioux City Police Department will be holding a tailgate party at the Morningside College/Briar Cliff College football game at Olson Stadium on the Morningside campus on October 22 prior to the game.

There will be food and other activities and at half time the crowd will stand for a moment of silence to honor all of the individuals effected by domestic violence.

Advocacy is based on a philosophy of respect, confidentiality, and support. As advocates, we hope to widen a survivor’s possible choices and provide the support necessary to promote safety. This respect allows each individual the right to determine the course of her or his own life.

Counseling provides brief, solution-based peer support in a one to one environment.

Crisis intervention, on the phone or in person to stabilize emotions, clarify issues, provide support, and explore options to meet the individual’s immediate needs.

CRISIS INTERVENTION INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assessing risk and/or danger

  • Assessing suicide risk

  • Assessment of needs

  • Listening

  • Establishing rapport and communication

  • Validating feelings and providing support

  • Identifying the major problems

  • Safety planning

  • Referrals

  • Information about legal rights and remedies

  • Exploring possible alternatives

  • Formulating an action plan

CASE MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Ongoing and long-term safety planning

  • Law enforcement assistance

  • Referrals for legal remedies and services

  • Referrals for public assistance services, including job training and support services

  • Referrals for short-term, transitional and/or permanent housing

  • Referrals for child care services and parenting education

  • Referrals for alcohol and drug evaluation and education
